Here are five of my favorite sweater knits in the shop right now, plus a few tips to help your next cozy project go smoothly.

Tips for sewing sweater knits
- Use a ballpoint or stretch needle. It slips between the loops instead of piercing them, so you avoid skipped stitches and runs.
- Choose a stretchy stitch. A serger is ideal, but a narrow zigzag or your machine's stretch stitch works great too.
- Don't stretch as you sew. Let the feed dogs do the work. A walking foot or lighter presser foot pressure helps keep seams from going wavy.
- Stabilize shoulder seams. Clear elastic or stay tape keeps shoulders and necklines from stretching out over time.
- Cut on a flat surface. Keep all the fabric on the table so it doesn't stretch while you cut, and use pattern weights and a rotary cutter if you have them.
- Prewash the way you'll wash the finished piece, and lay sweater knits flat to dry to keep their shape.
